Team

Avenues Recovery Center in Pennsylvania offers the most patient-centered clinical treatment available.

The Avenues Recovery team is acutely qualified for the most at risk and vulnerable, staffed with a full-time physician, psychiatrist, and licensed counselors. Our case managers will address any legal, family, or FMLA complications, and most of all focus on workforce reentry.

Travis Roberts, MSN, FNP-C, Nurse Practitioner, is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner with the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). He graduated with an Associate of Science in nursing in 2013 from the College of Southern Maryland and a Master of Science in nursing with a specialty of Family Nurse Practitioner from Chamberlain School of Nursing and is currently enrolled at Regis Catholic University to pursue dual certification in psychiatric mental health.

Travis works tirelessly in our community to help those wishing for a lifestyle of recovery. His holistic approach coupled with medication assisted therapy teaches patients the importance of self-advocacy for their continued health during recovery from substance abuse.

Seamus Nash, CSC-AD, Counselor, has more than seven years of experience working with clients with substance use disorder. He is a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSC-AD) in the State of Maryland. Seamus’s desire to help prevent substance abuse began when he was working in Facilities Management at American University. He became active with a substance abuse prevention program and contributed both time and money to the cause. After several years, he decided to add a psychology degree to his education with a specialization in substance abuse counseling. Seamus states that changing careers has been one of the most rewarding things of his life. Seamus has worked primarily at inpatient treatment centers. He completed an internship at Shephard Pratt, and has worked with Medicaid and private insurance. Seamus uses his skills to assist clients with co-occurring disorders, family issues, and gambling addictions.

Terry Wood, MA, CAC-AD, Counselor, has been in the addiction counseling field “since the previous century.” She is a graduate of the University of Maryland and of Bowie State University, where she earned a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology. She began her career with Prince George’s County Health Department in College Park and joined the staff at Avenues in 1992. She has worked in many capacities in this program, but she has an ongoing devotion to the family education and outpatient components of treatment.

Terry has been married since 1990. She and her husband, Allen, have many children and grandchildren that they claim as their own since she is a mother to two adult daughters, step mother to three and honorary (foster) mother and grandmother to many much-loved family members.

In addition to her counseling experience, Terry is also a licensed mortician at funeral home in Calvert County, which gives her special insight into the dynamics between grief, loss and addiction.

Michelle Asmussen, ADT, Counselor, began her recovery career as a Certified Drug and Alcohol Collection Professional, and through continuing education, became a Certified Peer Specialist and Recovery Coach, and eventually a Drug and Alcohol Counselor. As a person in long term recovery, Michelle’s passion lies in helping others to thrive in sobriety, and she specializes in assisting individuals through their transition out of incarceration. Through an organization called KAIROS, Michelle is a volunteer mentor at the Maryland Correctional Institution at Jessup.

Emilie Spencer, ADT, Counselor, focuses on alternative therapeutic methodologies such as music, art, and exercise therapy, while assisting individuals in all aspects of their recovery. Emilie has a personal interest in the arts and engages in a regular exercise regimen.

Tamia Musgrave, MSN, APRN, FNP-C, PMHNP-B, CARN-AP, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, has over 27 years of clinical experience in the healthcare industry. As a dual-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) and Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-C), she utilizes a patient-centered approach in treating individuals and families. Her mission is to motivate and empower people to reach their optimal health and wellness through an individualized, holistic plan; addressing both the behavioral and physical health needs of her patients.

As a certified addiction specialist, Tamia is dedicated to helping people recover from substance abuse by utilizing medication assisted therapy, like Suboxone and similar medications, in combination with counseling.

Tamia believes that good mental health strengthens the ability of our clients to cope with daily life circumstances or issues. Tamia is committed to helping our clients with their behavioral health concerns so they may create a new path to the life they desire.

What our alumni are saying

quote

Avenues of Maryland was a great choice for the beginning of my recovery. I knew I needed a place that was going to be longer than 30 days and Avenues offered a 60 day program which fit my needs perfectly. The staff is great – there is not one area of staff that isn’t caring and supportive, starting from the RC staff all the way up to the clinical staff. The clinical staff is great when it comes to the needs of the clients and their personalized care. I love my counselor Michelle. I will forever be grateful and appreciative of the time and effort she put into me. All the things she did for me while here at Avenues and setting up the next phase of my treatment plan to make sure it was fit my needs. I needed a place with people who were going to push me to dig into what this disease of addiction is all about but do it with a loving yet tough push. If you were where I was and know you need help but you need the right place and the right people Avenues of Maryland might be the right place for you. Yes, YOU WILL have to work for this thing called Recovery and Avenues offers intense treatment but there is no better place to start with better people. Thank you Avenues!!!

This is an amazing treatment facility. I am truly blessed to have experienced recovery here. The staff is amazing, the food is outstanding, the counselors are phenomenal, and the groups are extremely helpful. Going to this treatment facility was one of the best decisions that I’ve ever made. After completing my 28 days here I actually extended my treatment here because it was so good. Now that I have completed my program at the Avenue Recovery I am on to my next step in my recovery. I have so much confidence in my recovery thanks to my experience at The Avenue Recovery center in Prince Frederick, MD
